Active Safety Technology

The term active is applied to those technological features that help to prevent an accident. Most of these are included in Honda's Sensing Technology package.

Lane Keeping Assist System LKAS is designed to assist drivers in keeping within their lanes unless they've signalled an intention to change lanes. If they do drift out of their lane without signalling, Lane Departure Warning will give an audible alarm to alert the diver.

The Forward Collision Warning FCW System works with the Collision Mitigation Braking System CMBS. The FCW scans the traffic ahead and beeps if you get too close to the cars in front. If you ignore the warning provided by this system, the CMBS will kick in by applying the brakes to slow your vehicle to a safe speed, avoiding a rear-end collision.

The Lane Departure System LDW will provide alarms if it detects that you are driving too close to the road's edge.

The Adaptive Cruise Control technology has an additional feature with Low-Speed Follow. This technology will keep a constant distance from the vehicle ahead of you. It can brake and stop if the traffic stops and then start again once the traffic begins to move.

Passive Safety Features

Passive safety features are designed to protect the vehicle's occupants in the event of an accident, reducing the chance or extent of injuries.

The most apparent of the passive safety features are the airbags that are fitted to the vehicle. Honda’s included airbags that will protect the occupants from all sides, including the rear and at knee level.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering ACE body structure ensures that the impact energy from a frontal collision is controlled and dispersed, preventing intrusion into the cabin. In addition, the front bumper is designed to absorb energy.

Honda's Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control is made for this purpose. This system helps the driver maintain stability when cornering, and the traction control will prevent the wheels from spinning and losing traction in slippery conditions.

Hill Start Assist prevents the car from rolling backward when taking off on a hill. It gently applies the brakes, avoiding the rollback until forward momentum is gained.

Honda has considered the significant things and the smaller items, such as the wipers and the headlight beams. The wipers give the clearest view in bad weather. The headlights automatically switch between high and low beams.

Accidents can happen, and if the airbags deploy, the Civic's infotainment system will try to call for help. An operator will provide your location to emergency services if necessary. This service works with any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, provided there is cell service. It does not require any form of subscription.
